A bit of Nullarbor humour |
Yesterday we excitedly counted down the last 100km of the Eyre Highway to Norseman, the end of the Nullarbor. It was a fun trip and not nearly as long or boring as we thought it would be.
For those who like a good set of stats, here's some that may be of interest:
- From Port Augusta, where the highway starts, to Ceduna where it ends, we travelled 1899km.
- We spent $452 on petrol, and the highest we paid at the roadhouses on the Nullarbor plan was $1.75 per litre for diesel.
- We saw no camels, but did see 9 emus and 7 wedge-tailed eagles.
- The only kangaroos we saw were roadkill, and there were hundreds.

The Eyre Highway, 120kms from the end |
- We saw 24 road trains in total (our definition was they had to have three sections or more).
- We overtook 19 vehicles and 5 over took us.
And for the record, Dylan won the licorice allsorts competition. I caved yesterday afternoon when the 4pm sugar craving kicked in!
We then turned South to head for the coast. Disappointingly the road looked exactly the same for the next 80km!!
